+1. I used to have the FZ-18. It was a fantastic camera for a point and shoot. The 18X zoom was insane (nothing like being able to carry around a 570mm equivalent in a small camera). Unfortunately it got stolen
I've since upgraded to the Panasonic lumix G1. It was the first of the new non-SLR interchangeable lens cameras that have started appearing on the market. I've been incredibly happy with it. I've played around with a lot of my friends' entry level DSLRs and so far I much prefer the G1. I really like the flip out LCD, the EVF and of course the compact size. Here are some sample shots.
