vieja zonatus

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They're looking great! Their colors are really starting to come out. In the video, two look darker with more blue. I'd be happy to have either of them if they don't along.

Thanks guys. Tarheel96 we can figure something out. Im gonna try and hold on to 2 or 3 but may just keep 1. I may be forced to move these fish around with the impending move so we'll see what happens

Update on these little guys. Duanes mentioned that they are impossible to sex at this size but was wondering if anyone cared to tey anyway. 2 of them have nice dark blues 1 has a more palish color

I wouldn't venture to guess at that size, because all the profiles look the same the age yours are now.
One clue for me, is that males (at maturity) will have a steeper, more macho profile, while females will be more torpedo shaped.
Yours are still so similar, I can't see the difference.
In some Central Americans, the males have more defined spotting in the unpaired fins, but its been so long since I had zonatus, I can't recall that would pertain or not.

They are looking awesome man. I've really enjoyed watching they're progress. Love how fast the vieja family grow.

So i movedy stock around, im trying to cut down on the number of tanks. Going to have a couple of surgeries and may be moving soon.

Right now i have 3 zonatus between 2 and 3 inches in the 150 with a 9 inch pearsei and a few bichirs. Im planning on only keeping 1 zo long term but figure 3 woyld spreaf aggression (pearsei can be an asd sontimes) I know its over stocked but will upgrade after the move.

Question is how long do i have before the zonatus go berserker?

Just a for instance, something to ponder.
If your fish that are together now, and are not too crazy, they may have set up a hierarchy/pecking order that works for them. Maybe?
Sometime if you remove 1 or 2 zonatus(or any species from the situation, for that matter), the remaining individual can become hyper-dominant, and become aggressive to the other left over species, that it may not have, before.
Anytime to add or remove, you set up a new scenario, that may be worse, or better than the last.

So far its seems ok only been a couple of days. I was worried about the pearsei bullying the little zonatus but so far hes letting them in his area of the tank. Something he would never let the heterospilus do.

My fear is that while im waiting to move the zonatus reach that 6inch mark and turn on the pearsei.
