do any of these powdered products have a shelf life that any of you are aware of?
Not that I'm aware of. A box of Rid-X will cetrantly last long enough for you to use it all. I've had mine a few months now it's still good.

After reading this, I'll be getting started with Rid-x or earthworm this weekend!
Good to hear. Please post results, questions, comments etc.

PROBIOTICS i have been using ( all purchased at the Pharmacy) in powder form ( live bacteriae ):
Lactobcillus Reuteri
Lactobacillus Acidophilus
Lactobacillus Plantarum
lactobacillus paracasei
lactobacillus Delbruecki
lactobacillus Bulgaricus

Bifidobacteriae Breve

bifidobacteriae Longum

Bifidobacteriae Infantis

Streptococus Thermophillus

All together, straight into the tanks water column.
Curious, as to why you choose these strains?
And the amount that you dose?
Thank you

And for those who want to know exactly what probiotic bacteria are in the septic product they are using, you might want to take a closer look at the following product.

http://www.septicmaxx.com/how-septic-maxx-works-2/

They even offer a 30 day no obligation trial on their website.
Well, After reading and looking into this company I have found out alot of info. I even talked with 2 of their reps One a product specialist and the other a Product engineer. Confrence called with them for about 30 minutes about the use and thoughts of the product. Actually to say they were VERY instersted, intruiged and excited into the use I was looking to use it for. They actually carry several products and even the main product Septic-maxx comes in many different sizes. They are a large company who supplies many water treatment facilities across the USA with various products. They also have several other divisions out side of the septic type products for Comercial and industrial clean up. Be it for petrolium, Hydrocarbon, Grease and other variants of stuff. Rather interesting company.

They are actually sending me some samples to try out. One will be of their Septimaxx product. The other is the Septomaxx Trillion tabs. Ive got an experiment tank for the tablets to try. I will be using the Septimaxx on my overloaded 90 gallon.

They even asked me about Nitrification process and if I was looking for a Bio-product that did that as well that contained the bacteria for that. Claim they have a product that is very effective at doing this as well as working on a added products that will combine both that and the Septimaxx products. Sending me info and a sample of the Nitrification product as well. I think Ive got a lil 20 gallon or so tank I will set up and dose it with Ammonia and see how well it works out and establishes benificial bacteria in the filtration.

Will have to update everyone once I get everything this next week and get to try it out.

With regards to nitrification .........

Post # 57 in this discussion:

The bacteria found in these various "dry" septic tank products do not contain nitrifying bacteria. Having said that, the non-pathogenic heterotrophic species of bacteria that are found in these septic tank products can definitely aid in nitrification by reducing ammonia & nitrite levels. I know this for fact as I used them to do just that close to a decade ago when setting up some new tanks. Here's a good read on the subject which explains the difference in the various bacteria. http://www.bioconlabs.com/autoheterobac.html

I believe that Seachem states that Stability contains "some" nitrifying bacteria, and IME it works quicker/better than simply using "dry" septic tank bacteria. Of course some established filter media will also get the job done, and if/when available will cycle a new tank instantly.
