Haha I just went back and watched the fight and it's amazing how fast Roy was back then.

Interesting it looked to me like he was just shut down by a kidney shot.Roy Jones did something similar to Virgil Hill when they fought.
the shot to the body de la hoya took didn't look too devastating to me. that's why I question if Oscar just used it as a way out. but that's just my speculation

roy jones jr was a beast in his prime

My all time favorite in his prime along with Tyson. I truly believe Tyson could've beaten anyone in his prime.

If Tyson and Ali were in the same era who would you pick to win the most fights? Who would be the reigning heavy weight champion?

Ali would have beaten him just like he did with George Foreman,Ken Norton and other heavy hitters.

Ali. Tyson won many of his fights in early rounds because his opponents were afraid of him. Ali was afraid of no one. He would frustrate Tyson with his footwork, and take him out in the later rounds.

Yea I know Ali Ali. Don't forget how Ken Norton devastated him and broke his jaw. You young guys probably never saw that. Then Ali barely won a very controversial decision in their first rematch. Frazier also knocked him out and Tyson had more power than both those guys. I love Ali, I'm a black man and take pride in his legacy but part of him being referred to as the greatest was his cultural significance in the Civil rights and Vietnam era. I mean rocky Marciano never lost a fight 49-0 and nobody calls him the greatest.

Frazier beat Ali with power. Ali survived later fights by clinching and rope a dope. Clinching isn't allowed to the extent it was then, even if it was Tyson was notorious for pushing out of and breaking clinches with power punches. To me it's a coin toss. And I'm talking about the pre coc**ne addicted Tyson lol. Tyson knocked a man out in 8 seconds. If it ends early Tyson wins, goes late Ali.

Good points Diesel those guys really punished Ali but he found ways to beat them in one fight or the other. They were bombers but Ali had decent power himself which was part of what made him dangerous...As you you've said,Tyson is most dangerous in the early rounds and I got Ali being cagey enough to survive the early rounds and..dragging Tyson out to deep waters,as the saying goes, tiring him out and knocking him out late in the fight.
The way I see it,nobody calls Rocky Marciano The Greatest because he didn't come up with the title for himself.I think if he had it would have stuck and would have been forever married to his name...To many,Marciano is actually the greatest because he beat all his challengers and retired undefeated but then there are also those who will pick apart his opponents which includes men such as Joe Luis who was quite old and washed up by the time they met in the ring.

Ali had the best story for sure. Amazing legacy made even more powerful by his current physical state and all he endured and survived.

And about Marciano, You always have to ask yourself about the unbeaten in sports:

did they compete against nobody? Or make everyone look like nobody?
