I have a similar problem with one of my dabolas as you did with your Nigerian lap. I would've rehomed it if not for the fact that we don't get dabola shipments anymore. Honestly dislike it when it goes up for air and absolutely trashes the surface of the water when turning back down and smashes into every single poly in the tank, causing absolute chaos
Yep one poly can disturb the rest of the group. While I have my weeksii who is a very loud surface breather it always comes down without disturbing the others. The Nigerian lap would just spook when it got startled and dash straight into the others all piled up and then get polys dashing all over the tank. Didn’t really realize how irritating it was until the lap is gone and the tank is super calm.

I recently got rid of my teugs and the tank is completely different. I didnt realize they were basically terrorizing the rest of the fish as I didnt see aggression until the last two weeks I had them. Tank is much more calm, the big female del dosent hit the surface as hard and dash away like she used to. Its amazing what a difference a fish or a couple fish can make.

Not a poly update but a sad update.

I came home from a 2 day trip to the beach and found the het unable to swim upright. So I had to put the little guy down with clove oil.

Not sure what happened and he was only 5 years old.

My little guy made it to 10 1/2 inches! For all those thinking their het's will never grow or get that large, there is hope, they do grow!

Anyway sad moment since I raised the little guy from about 1/2" long. So the Pearsei is it for larger top dwelling fish. Dont even know how the het's absence will effect its personality. It has got more shy as time has passed and less tank mates. Dont even know what I should do now. Tank does look empty.

Thanks for the kind words guys.

David do you think it was bloat ?
I know he looks thick but the fish have been fed pretty lightly for a while. There was a small wound on his side. Might be a puncture from a piece of driftwood? Not really sure. Feel bad because I was out of town for two days and came home to the fish alive but twirling and not able to stay upright.

The tank has looked empty for a while. Rehoming stock over the years and no more Regani, red bay snook and now the het... super empty looking. This was why I had done the Oscar project but then it didnt work out, so again emptier looking now. Need to find something to fill that empty space. Maybe some silver dollars? lol, no not that, anything but that
