I think you should post your stocking ideas on the ray forum and im sure they will put you right.
Id like some but im not sure if my bichirs will attack the rays or vice versa.
Thinking about the geos, our local maidenhead has had 2 motoros with geos for years in their display tank, they have daemons, jupari and another species and dont think they have had any problems.

Ideas for yours could be a nice asian aro or 2 or more depending on your wallet, peacock bass or gars would be great or a load of dats, etc.

Steve
just realised, am i getting peacock bass and dats confused as being the same sp.?

steve, my apologies, just checked out peacock bass, thought i had my wires crossed. those suckers look even meaner than the dats!

how about a jaguar cichlid? always liked those, just watched a clip on youtube of a fairly big tank stocked well with geophagus sp. clown loaches and a random jag chilling in the corner, much bigger than his tank mates???

Hi mike,it does sound like you were getting mixed up with dats and pbass,if you look at my albums you will see my dats and personally i love dats, they have such great eyes and personalities and they look fantastic.
As for pbass,i like them but i think i would only have them so i had more sp of fish if you know what i mean, instead of mainly aros and dats and tinnys swimming about.

The rays can sort of suffocate prey and chew on them so they dont have to fit them in their mouths to kill them, thats what im worried about also my bichirs may chew on the rays too.

Glad your filter is holding well, are you going to heat the tank or just the filter?

As for my tank the dimensions will be 9ftx4.5ftx32" high with a 6x2x2 as the sump undreneath it which is my main tank at the moment which takes some believing lol.
The stock will be whats in my sig and maybe a few more additions,id like rays because id have the footprint but just worried about them either being chewed on or chewing something else.

Cheers steve, i'll get round to posting some stock ideas including rays and see if they get shot down or not, so far i'm only working on the assumption that if its too big to fit in the ray's mouth then it's got a fighting chance.

Def want to get an asian aro ( or two) and to be honest the peacock bass are growing on me alot, are they popular because they have 'marine fish' looks about them? i love the markings on the more mature individuals.

On a more realistic note (can't talk fish really when i aint got any water, hey) the filter is holding up fine, heating has not seemed to affect anything.
the temp in the summer house was just over 25 when i got in this afternoon and it holds the air temp well into the night, which is positive for the winter months when the underfloor heating is on.

Just need to apply that (hopefully) final coat of epoxy to the main tank and get the glass/price.

I know i keep asking about your future tank, but, sorry to be nosey. what are you gonna keep in it? am i right in thinking its gonna be nine foot long?
One thing to note might be what the temperature is in there first thing in the morning to see how well it's holding heat all night maybe?

Big p-bass fan, not so much Dats, but completely lost track of which it was you were after through all that! My big bass is great, would eat my fingers given half a chance when being hand fed and he came from a tank with a ray with no problems between the bass and the ray.

You want mine? Scaling down and going to ebay my old 6x2x2 so he's on the list of fish that'll have to go as he'll eventually fit in side the big cats mouth's, along with a few other fish if you want them.

I am having problems again :irked:  went out to the summer house early this morning to get some tools for work, what did i spot, but leaks! same place as the original one and a small new one, both were small but constant.

Drained it and went off to work, i'm home now so will dry it out completely. I cant figure it out, everything is supported well, it's had plenty of coats of epoxy, what the hell is happening here!?

Decided to get it dry, then put several coats on both the filter and tank, over a couple of days, it's all i can think to do. One step forward, three steps back.

Well, i'd either go for lots more coats of epoxy or try working with fibreglass...........there's always pond liner;)

There would have been a good few pics of the jag on my thread before the pictures all vanished. He appears a couple of times in the videos that are still on there i think. Got this old one though from a tank he was in many years ago: You can have him, i'll just be happy he's going to a good home. The only fish that may have to go that i'd want a bit of money for is the stripped headstander as he was quite expensive to buy in the first place. The Jag is very placid for a Jag and small at only 10" or so, had him since 2002 (i think!) so he's getting on bit. Devolped a cloudy eye recently but it doesn't seem to bother him, always pleased to see people if you talk to him.

where do i sign?! yep please, love to have him, hope you're not in a mad mad rush to move him on, i have to re-home my jardini :( before i could take the jaguar, i'm gonna post him in the aro section and on aquaristclassfieds, bit of luck some one is after one, i don't want anything for it either, just a big tank. fancy a swap?

Pond liner cound be the final straw, board the window over and look from above! always an option

shall i pm you my number or give me yours and i'll give you a bell about the jag?

oh, got the oak trimmed up and in the water-less tank :grinno:

Steve
love the size of your tank, the filter is gonna be almost as big as my tank!

Thanks for the advice again, i will bear that in mind about the rays, if i ever get any water to put anything in

I'm going to heat the tank and the filter, but aim to keep most of the heaters in the filter, out of harm's way.
