here's where i stand. ordering front panel tuesday, takes week to ten days for production and delivery. filter holds water fine, sections have cured etc. so now i'm thinking of media. first section will have bio balls, however there was a thread for a wicked ply tank in Holland that the guy was keeping discus in, i cant find it but he said something about some type of small bio balls, beginning with a 'K'?, that gave way loads more surface area, anyone know what the name was so i can search it online? next section in filter, should it have mechanical filtration, a variety of differing grade of sponge media?

after that i have two more sections, what would work well in these before the water reaches the sump? i still plan on keeping asian aros and if poss a stingray, so the water will be on the soft side, if that affects filtration? been thinking about getting the filter circulating and heated so i can cycle it for as long as possible before filling the tank and then cycling that for quite a while then adding some gold fish to aid the bacterial side of things.

kaldness is the media mike its better if used in a moving bed filter thais can be achieved in your filter no probs

you could run air under the chamber to fluidise , be aware it takes some time to cycle

glad the glass fibre went well it wont leak now and be 100 times stronger

dont use goldfish unless you want problems with gill flukes , anchor worm ect later on

plenty of products out there that will aid the filtration

Hi Alan, nice to hear from you again mate. Kaldness, i'll jot that down so i don't forget again, cheers. i was thinking of using an air stone in the sump to keep the surface water moving better, so it should be simple to add an additional air stone at the bottom of the first section where the Kaldness would go?

The glass fibre certainly looks much better and stronger throughout, now it cured hard it fills me with confidence, that epoxy never would have worked  :WHOA:

makes sense what you're saying about using goldfish to speed up the filtration maturity, think i will give that a miss when the time comes, hand full of guppies or any other hardy little tropicals be a better bet rather than chemicals? I am planning on having a decent amount of java fern/moss in the tank from the start, growing close to the surface on the wood, so hopefully the plants would play a small role in the filtration too.
