i've looked for an answer to my question over the last 70 or so pages and couldn't find an answer so i'll ask you direct:

what was the main reason for going with sanitred versus pondarmor or epoxy? was it cost? ease of use? i'm interested to know as i will be building a tank similar (a bit bigger 10ft X 10ft X 6ft) and i'm definitely taking notes. i was planning on just doing what johnptc has done but was following your build pretty closely and as result i don't think i will do ANYTHING different from what john has done.

Wizzin, in my honest opinion, I think you should buy some, 1/4" 10x4 hardibacker board and drylok it. People are using it directly on wood without problems. This can be done in two days, and you have spent enough time and money experimenting with products. The hardi and drylok together will be cheaper than pond armor, or any other sealer.

I would be very hesitant to try to seal anything over the blocks, even if you strip the sanitred, some of it penetrated the block which might cause serious adhesion problems with whatever else you try to use.

If you do decide to go with hardi, buy enough sillicone, I used a whole case.

Good luck.

I wouldn't suggest doing anything different than John did. Use pond armor and follow his build exactly.

I'm thinking about this. I've seen different hardi board before. There is the hardiboard that you use on the exterior of a building. Sort of a very strong siding material, and I've seen the hardi backer board which is a concrete type material. You're talking about the concrete type backer board like you'd find at lowes right?

Around here there are 2 types of tile backer board. One is concrete grey and the other is a tan color. I wouldn't use the grey board. It's too soft. Drop a rock or walk on it and there's a good chance a portion will give, resulting in a probable leak.

i'm sure the manager of who ever decided to post on this thread isn't happy and doesn't like the negative press.

regardless of who is right (no offense wizzin) that kind of attitude and behavior on a thread is all the evidence i need to NOT use their product.

While viewing this thread RIGHT NOW, I can see that the Sani-Tred rep is viewing too. I have a question for both Wizzin AND the rep.

Wizzin, at any point did you think about requesting a rep to drop by, look at your project and give you face to face advice?

Sani-Tred Rep, has anyone from Sani-Tred thought to drop by and see this project for themselves?

I'm amazed that this "disagreement" has become so public - on this forum - and so heated, from both sides!

I can almost sense the Moderators hovering over their keyboards on this one!

Would it be possible for a rep to visit Wizzin and try to resolve this issue in a positive manner?
Surely that is the best solution.

As Wizzin is a CUSTOMER who has spent a fair amount of money on the product AND someone who is basically building a prototype project with the product, I don't think a personal visit, with a view to solving the problem, is asking too much....

Over to you guys......

no, never asked, or thought about it. Honestly, it would cost them more for a plane ticket than I spent on their product. Doesn't make much business sense to me. What's ironic, is that I was pretty much done posting about them and this until he posted in this thread. That just caused me to get more agitated. I was looking at other options in my last post and was done ranting about my experience with them. i spared posting all the details of our discussions on this thread until he posted here.
