Todays lesson: Don't fall asleep during the syphoning stage of a waterchange even if you think the hose is secure at a certain level so you won't drain too much out. I think you can see where this is going. Pump ran dry for a bit but is still working and the fish only had about 8" of water left.

whoooopsiiieeee , ive done quite the opposite and not so long ago too, i left the hose in the tank RUNNING and fell asllep watching it happen too lol lol

It happens to all of us at some time or another, but atleast my fish had plenty of water to swim in, even though it was cold hehehe

Im sure ur fishys would have ben very gratefull for u not staying asleep too long  :nilly:

the hose hadn't slipped too far so luckily it had stopped draining. I was more worried i'd burnt the pump out.

Nearly did the same as you waterchanging mrs satans tank a couple of days ago, think it's about 2mm from the top when i noticed!

Would it not be easier to line the entire box with plywood and paint the inside with Permadri/Pond Coat and then add viewing windows!
That stuff costs a fortune here in the UK, its cheaper to go the liner way.

Basslover can ship the stuff at a cheaper price though and a pond satans size would need quite a bit, like 2x30l drums ;)

^^^^^^^^^^^^^What he said^^^^^^^^^^^

A good quality pond liner the size i need will only be £25. Ply was twice the price of mdf with not much difference in ridgidity at 3/4", and got sealant that can fix pond liner to near enough anything at just a little more cost than Silicone would have been.

With the tarp as a "protective" layer, could you get away with using that construction-grade plastic sheeting? I would imagine its water-tight and comes in various thicknesses, might be a cheaper option than pond-liner...

pond liner is inexpensive when you factor in the cost of a leak and the damage to the carpet. it this talk leaks there is still carpet unted it and will have the house stinking in no time. pond liner is a very wise invesment. the fact that there will be a couple layers of tarp over it is added security. keep it up its coming along nicely

Old tarp and water out. A little beading of water found between the bottom 2 tarps but the wood underneath was bone dry. New proper pond liner in, it's smooth down the front but a bit of a paain to get smooth at the back. Will fit frames for glass next.
