Can you tell what it is yet? Construction has started!

what is the thickness of your glass satan, 10mm or 12mm?? Ive had trouble deciding what thickness to go as mine will be twice the length of yours but roughly the same size in every other way, same layout with the windows too ;)
Length has very little to do with the glass thickness. Height is what determines the thickness needed.

So 5ft high, what thickness glass should i use nolapete? Sorry for the slight thread steal satan, im now curious
Ummm, cell cast acrylic... Glass that tall would have to be close to 1.5" thick for safety factor. I'd guess you could get by with 1", but that would be an accident waiting to happen. Not to mention, it would weigh a ton.

Note that I didn't say length had nothing to do with it. A 5 ft. tall window 1 ft wide could most likely be 3/4"-1" as long as it was well-framed. If you're talking about 5ft x 5 ft, using glass is crazy.

ok cool i think me needs some of thats sealant then, dont need gloves...........gloves are for wimps  glad its all going well and im sure it will be water tight
I have sticky rubbery hands:( I think that sealant is some kind of liquid rubber as it has good flex to it still when dry. Fingers crossed it works, couldn't have done much more around the edge of that one to try and seal it. The plan is to do the other 2 tomorrow.

Mine are 10mm, but only at a maximum depth of 2'. If i'd gone for 4 windows to full depth of 3 feet then it would have been 12mm.

The rubber cement bonds the hard rubber to the liner. The Dow 795 is used to bond the glass to the rubber.

As someone mentioned, you need to have the liner seated in place before you add the hard rubber gasket, but was wrong about having water in it while sealing. Moisture and uncured sealant don't go together. The moisture will compromise the bond.
If the method i'm using doesn't work then i'll give this a go.

As said, big and heavy!

The fella with the 50,000 has windows to a depth of 5' made from 1" glass but they're only about 2' wide if i remember rightly and well supported. Have a read of it.

Acrylic seems to be the option of choice for big deep viewing windows matey.

Sorry guys maybe i should of explained a bit better, the windows themselves will be 2x2ft, the pond height is gna be 5ft, all in total, 12ftx5x5 will be the overall pond size with 4 viewing windows at 12mm, thats what i was thinking anyway.

The reason i was thinking 12mm was for the sheer length of it, but as it was said earlier it goes on the height not the length so 10mm may be good enough.

Anyway frames tomorrow ey m8, well this is moving along nicly, alot faster than i thought, great progress m8 and good luck on the fill

Now it depends on what level of the pond you're putting your windows. If they're surface down to 2' depth then 10mm. If you're viewing windows are looking at a depth of 1' to 3' then 12mm should work. If the water pressure against them is going to be more than 3' deep then you'll need to go thicker still (don't know the thickness off the top of my head.)

So what depth are your windows going to be in your pond?

Currently trying to get the motivation to go and do the last 2 frames. Here's a pic of the liner cut out from the middle of the first of the first one.

And Bigcol, went to the lfs with the 4' rtc earlier, they have a couple 'baby' 12" rtc for sale now;) and a new supplier who apparently has all kinds of unusual stuff on their lists:drool: (Will be checking for an albino/platinum rtc next time, that £20 is mine! Muwahahaha!!!)
