Thanks for the kind words F1! I forgot to snip the roots as you mentioned earlier in the thread, too excited to remember I guess lol. I'll do that, there are no pebbles in the basket so it should be fairly easy to do. Since there are no aggression issues, I'm taking my time on the 280. Checking out threads here to get some ideas for a new look. I think the pothos will benefit from an hour of sunlight everyday.
You will experience a much quicker acclimation period if you snip them! The roots re-grow much faster! I'm sure your tank is going to be amazing when finished!

Cheers!

Mine has been in about a week n a half now n im seeing new root growth... The existing roots are stained from the dirt but there is growth undernieth it and its pure white... I assume that means its acclimated and consuming nitrates by now?

I was a big fan of pothos, but it literally took over my tank. you need to systematically cut the roots down. Also make sure to agitate the roots before water changes to remove any debris that may be trapped into their thick roots. Its a great plant but a little bit too much for fish tanks. I'd also say the same thing for the peace lily or the arrowplant.

Yea that's why I put mine in a hydro basket with pea gravel, easier to maintain and remove, it does take awhile before it takes over, a little trimming here and there is all you need! Good advice tho!

I want a jungle in my house!

Also aro and peace lillys aren't as efficient for nitrate removal, but they will be fine in water.

Yea 16" marineland 2x led, its a very dark Bw tank so not that much light penetrates, my Piranha love it! IMO it also looks very natural.

My mom has tons of pothos around the house so she me the go ahead to use them in my sump! I also had a spare light laying around so I put that on since my sump isn't so bright. I definitely have to put in some more when I get more containersImageUploadedByMonsterAquariaNetwork1352597348.108756.jpgImageUploadedByMonsterAquariaNetwork1352597357.692943.jpg
