Not sure why this is bad for the fish? Assuming the fish is of appropriate size for a 10g tank it is irrelevant to their "quality of life" if they dont use the tube.

I have some PVC tubes going over the top of the tanks to move water between tanks and actually had to put screens on them just to keep my curious fish from switching tanks on me.

I dint say you were making it bad for the fish! Merely sharing my experience. If your fish are suited to the small tank on either side then there would be no great impact other if they all decide to occupy one half and hence over stock it.

The water transfer pipes sounds like a great idea as it would make up for the reduced water movement between the 10G

I meant no offence dude :) :chillpill:

What all qualifies over stocking? Water volume? Territory? Filtration capacity?
Wouldn't the volume of water still be 20 gallons plus the tubes for like 22 and then the filtration be 20 gallon sufficient? The only limit could be territory but as we all know, furniture can turn that around depending on the fish. Little fish for 10 gallon tanks should do fine with some rocks on either side. I can't see an overstock situation developing unless there are too many fish for a 20 gallon tank.

Dude the tubing is costing me like 10 bucks the way im doing it. Plus it isnt about the money its just a project to entertain myself.

can anybody find the thread to the two 40 gallons that were linked together as camshaft earlier mentioned?

ha! I was thinking the same thing . . . sometimes people miss the point, it can be fun just to try something different . . . if it doesn't work, that's okay too

good luck

I'm sorry, but I tried to find it and couldnt. It wasnt even a thread about it. I remember he had posted it in another persons thread. But it was an actual professionally done tank. I dont think it was a diy.

Here is my 2 cents...

We are talking about 10 gallon tanks. The best you are going to put into them are guppies, danios, or small tetras. Get 2" bulkheads of that clear pvc, and a length of 2" clear pvc pipe. Drill the tank and install the pvc. I dont know why you would look at anything larger than 2".

IMO that would be the easiest way to do it.
