This is the plumbing draining my 135. The tank has three 1" drains. The holes are drilled 3" down with street 90's and homemade strainers. The three 1" lines have 1/2" vents, they all go together into an 1 1/2" cross and then through the sheetrock into the wall. I had cabinet doors made for access to the drain and return lines, plus I have a timer for the lights and a tube I can add water through. The 1 1/2" line has a 3/4" vent that loops back under the floor, just in case something gets plugged...

I will post pictures of the filtration in a separate reply, I have dial-up internet and it doesn't like big groups of pictures. :(

This is the filtration for my 135 community. It is all in a 300 gallon Rubbermaid in my crawl space. I put it in the foundation while I was building my house, I got some strange looks from the framers over that one...

I am running:
Merlin fluidized bed
Homemade assembly of six Bio-wheels
Eheim 2017 Canister feeding a Wet-Dry Bucket Filter full of Bio-balls
55 pounds of gravel in a cat-litter pan reverse-flow undergravel

I love seeing the pictures of other people's systems!

I was really impressed by PacuMama's system. Her husband must be a real DIYer. I guess most loggers know there way around a shop, but that's nice work! I worked five years as a plumber, including a year of apprenticeship school, so I can appreciate a well built system.

Here is the filter I use on my 300 and 125. It has the drip system float switch incorporated into it.

The custom bio wheel set up is impressive. Any idea how much impact they have on reducing ammonia and nitrites?
Thanks!

It is hard to know how much it's doing. I have been adding filtration in stages, but I don't test my water regularly.

I had the wheels sitting around (I'm not using any HOB filters anymore) so I thought it would be a fun project. It certainly is doing something, at the least it is adding a lot of oxygen to the sump.

Here's a construction photo.

Bio-towers, custom biowheels setup, a giant rubbermaid sump, this thread is one of the best IMO. I thought I had something with my wet/dry and xp3 on my 120 gallon. Time to start drawing up plans for a summer project!

Each of you should write and publish your own articles on your setups, incredible!

I agree, this is a cool thread. Rallysman's setup looks great, I LOVE the Frontosas!

I think the "Setup and Filtration" and "DIY" sections are the most interesting by far. The lounge is the scariest!
