To Pre-empt the questions... The eductors are basically flow multipliers. My filter should run at somewhere around 1/2 to 1" of head, so employing a pump that can do 15 feet of head is a bit inefficient. These take relatively fast, high pressure flow and mix it with surrounding water, drawing in a bunch more flow to increase the overall fluid moved. Hopefully I will be able to move 1500-2500gph with my 800gph pond pumps. The eductors will fit in the two holes near the bottom of the filter section divider I spent so much time making earlier in the thread.

what are you making them out of?
Well I was hoping to make them 100% PVC, but my local HD doesn't have PVC in 1.5" :screwy:, and I'm way too lazy to go to a plumbing place, so they will be some amalgam of PVC and ABS plastic. The colored images show the individual parts I will have to make. The flared cone part will be formed ABS pipe, the white parts are machined out 1.5" bulkheads, the nozzles I'll have to make out of either 1" PVC round stock, or try to form them out of pipe. The black brackets I'll have to machine from PVC or ABS sheet.

Alright, some pics.

Looking into the tank at an angle, with the filter divider sitting in place:

Looking down at the top of the filter, you can see one of the dividers and the tray that will hold the filter bags

Looking down a little further over, this will be one of the bio chambers. They are 1'x1'x2' or so, and will house one pump and eductor each, along with a bunch of media in mesh bags.

Now, to make the flare for the eductors, I turned up this aluminum cone at work...

And through some trial and error figured out the right combination of heat and force to make a flare:

Today I machined it a little bit to get rid of the ragged edge and clean it up a bit. Now I need to make another one tonight, and hopefully glue these together this weekend.

so the water will over flow through the top pass through the socks, through the media and be pumped out the bottom through the 'amplifier' ??

what do you have planned for media

have you decided on the tile ?
Close enough on the filter workings. Media I don't know yet. Likely a combo of bioballs, crushed coral, and scrubbies.

As for tile I was all ready to go buy some this weekend, but apparently there's a granite place going out of business near where I work, so I'm going to go check out what is laying around there for free before I lay out for tiles.

Here's a view with the divider removed, so you can see wtf is going on a bit better.

And with some drunken photoshop paintbrush editing:
