Good news

Just rented a place. I move in on the 15th, and as soon as I can get a car loan (need 3months on the new job first) I will be buying a friend's truck, and pulling a Uhaul up here with this tank, and a bunch of tools! Setting it up will be kind of slow here, because I won't have all my tools and supplies right away, but I can at least get it full of water and start messing with how the filtration is going to work.

Good Luck! I hope everything goes well. Keep us updated.

How much does the empty tank weight?

Great work by the way!!!!!

I'd put empty tank weight at around 300-350lbs, which isn't bad considering the size of the thing. I could move it around and get it up and down off the stand fairly easily by myself before I added the 150lbs of glass.

So, minor update, I have the keys to a new place, and it has a small garage (10 by 20 or so). I am currently evaluating the best way to set up this tank in the new place - whethr I can get away with setting it up on the ground floor, or if I should use the garage. The thing about the garage is that it's another room to heat, and if I have half the garage taken up by a tank, I can't use the shop to build furniture or work on my car. However, the ideal spot for a tank this size in the house is facing the wrong way (I.e. it's a corner location, but if I put this tank there, the short glass pane will be up against a wall.) There is also the issue of putting 3 tons on a wood floor. I would need to get into the crawlspace and install some support beams and posts. Not a show stopper, but definitely a pain in the ass, as I have bad knees and a bad back!

Anyway, work is very busy but I'm trying to arrange a time to get down to Vancouver and get my new truck and haul the tank up here with me sometime in the next few weeks, before the threat of snow looms. This weekend I will be setting up the tub somewhere in the house or in the garage and starting it cycling so I can move fish into it.

Oh! and I had a pet store offer me a 30" TSN about a 5 hour drive from here. They have it in a 375gl tank right now, but it's just too big, and tey want to see it go to a good home. Maybe I'll try to arrange to pick that up on my way through with the tank!

Right so... Sort of pissed off, but the world has not ended.

I rented a Uhaul. I bought a truck. I had some friends over to help me muscle the tank into the uhaul along with a bunch of my tools and miscellaneous crap. I proceeded to drive 16 hours from delta to FSJ with tank in tow.

Yesterday, tired as hell I decided to assemble the stand in my new place, and slide it around a bit to see where I would put the tank. Reality comes along. This tank is way too big to look reasonable in this new place, so it will be a garage tank. This is fine from a keeping fish point of view, but I spent a lot of time making this thing look nice, so it kind of sucks. Oh well. Tonight I have a friend coming over to help me pull the thing out of the trailer and into the garage.

On the bright side, I put 10 little feeders in my temporary tub last night to make sure there wasn't anything toxic in there, and 9/10 of them are still alive. The 10th little fishy fell victim to natural selection as he got sucked up against the filter intake.

glad to see you made it up there. sorry to here the tanks not gonna work in the house. So did you pick up the TSN? on your way by? keep up the good work this tank is a beauty and even though it sucks it takes up room for the car that garage is gonna make a killer fish room:cool-1::cheers:

I did not pick up the TSN in prince george... it was 8pm when I passed through, and I just wanted to get home. I will be making another road trip to PG and/or vancouver in the near future, when I will pick him up.

this weekend though I am picking up a 2 foot TSN that's living in an 80gl right now. Poor guy can't even turn around.

Anyone see a huge problem housing a pair of 2 foot TSNs in a 200gl pond temporarily? It will probably technically be overstocked, but I think my water quality management will handle it. I'm more worried about the close quarters - the ought to co-exist peacefully no?

Did manage to get the tank out of the uhaul and into the garage. It might not be as much of a huge hulking brute as I thought in the shop.
