I say a tank like that deserves to be in your living room. Put the tank in first and arrange any furniture to suit.
Well that was the plan in the old place, but I had a much larger, darker living room. This new place is a duplex, so the rooms are long, and it feels very open and spacious with the light colors and open architecture. If you put a huge black cuboid in the living room it totally sucks the life out of it. I have the stand put together in there now and that alone is a bit much. If I spent the time to make a lighter colored, more asthetically pleasing stand, it MIGHT work, but I don't know how long we'll stay here, so I'll just put it in the garage. This way I don't have to worry about kids running into it and scaring my fish (which has previously been an issue), or things getting thrown and accidentally hitting the tank. When we buy a house, we'll look for one with enough space for this and possibly an even larger one. I'd very much like to build a 1500 or so gallon tank in a basement.

short term pain long term gain. I think personally if you can put both fish in the temp tank at the same time you will greatly decrease the likelyhood of any issues between them but sounds like that won't be possible. the should be ok I think from what I've read but I havent had them.

I read your first and last 40 post's, gonna have to take a look at this thread when I have more time. Tank turned out real nice, can't wait to see it set up. On the tsn's, they should be ok. (Really it's all trial and error, with any lrg catfish, some work, some don't.) Like just stated the best way is to put them both in there at the same time, BUT if that is not do-able then I'd say make sure there is no decor in the temp. tank at all, nothing! I've found that my lrg'er cats fight a lot less when there is no territory to protect.

I am So sorry to hear about walter passing away he was an awesome fish... I am glad you got yourself another... I have always had a soft spot for catfish though ( I have a blue catfish and a flathead catfish :D), I have followed this whole build read every thread about 3 times now and I am inspired by you, I am hoping I can physically do a build like yours ( but then again we all beleave bigger is better right :D) , seriously though I have back problems also I have a few crushed vertibrae and 4 nerves are pinched and my doctor has been wanting me to have surgery for the past few months ... I got family and a few friends that would help me undertake such a project it would just take quite a bit longer but thats ok it will give me more time to learn and try planning things out . I should have it done before my catfish have outgrown their temp aquarium .

Good news everyone! It's been snowing here for a couple of weeks but it's supposed to be nice this weekend, so I can haul everything out of my new garage and do my best to get this beast up on a stand in it's final home location!!

Also, last night I rescued this from an 80gl tank. I didn't believe the girl when she told me he was 2' long in an 80gl, but here he is, in 26" of glory:

Shwooooo........... Well I made it to page 34 and read all the post (well, almost all), this makes my 250gallon look like a pee tree dish. lol. I love the build and one day I may be able to build a wood tank. Can't wait to see this MONSTER in action. I thought small fish were fun but after having my 2' spotted panther grouper and 1.5' Minatus grouper, Monster fish are the way to go. So much cooler.
