i have been going horizontal then vertical every other layer. i don't think it adds any strength but it helps so i don't get any thin spots. it does look better horizontal i think also. the roller i picked up is foam and ibs been keeping it pretty even and doesn't show too much. so any tips for putting the glass in? i was going to put the tank face down then put the glass in and put some weight on the edges for a few days while the silicon cures? is this a good way or is there a better way

That's how I did it.

Stood it up, placed in the glass, then laid it on the front and put weight on the glass.

Huh, you're right. It must be 3mm. I think I read that on the LR website, but must have written it down wrong. I am not so good with my metrics.
Thanks!:grinno:

I put my glass in, both times, with the tank laying on it's face. You should not need much weight, the glass is plenty heavy and you dont want to squish the silicone out. If you have a Harbor Freight near you it's a good idea to pick up a couple of the dual suction cup handle things (see pic) for moving glass....makes all the difference in the world when you go to lower the glass. They are about $5-$6.00 each. Silicone the frame, insert the glass and the apply a bead of silicone around the edges of the glass. The next day you can apply LR on the fiberglass up to the silicone. When you stand the tank up after a few days, you can also apply silicone to the front of the glass if you'd like.

alright ill just be careful. i think it should be easy enough and it sounds like some hassle to try to put the glass in standing up and then set it on the face after.. so what are your opinions on how i should finish the outside of the tank? im either thinking of painting it all black. the stand tank and canopy, but then once the zavlar turns brown i think it would be a little contridicting. i also have thought about getting a bunch of 1x6's and staining them then running them horizontally all the way up. this will most likley be the way i will go but it will be more work but well worth it in the long run
