Back out on the same lake. Spring lake.
Tossin the buzz bait around a bit and getting some small hits. It was hot, probably close to 90 so I think the big boys were probably running deep, or hiding in thick cover. Since we were casting towards shore, most of the hits were small guys. But there is a lot of good cover on this lake, pads, hang over trees, cat tails. I knew it was only a matter of time before I raised a biggen hiding in the shallow shade... I cast towards shore and got hung up on a branch, just above the water. I flicked it off the branch and when it hit the surface of the water, WHOOOOSH! A big wake turned about 15 feet to the right. I tried to slow my retrieve, but it was so weedy I had to keep my speed up or it would just caught in the weeds. I tossed my buzz bait back in that hole a dozen times but nothing ever happened.
Then, about 50 yards down bank from that splash, I did the same thing. Got hung up in an over hanging branch. This time the lure fell to the water but the line was still draped over the branch. I was slowly raising it up to gently flip it over the branch and SMACK! A nice hit. Luckily she ran out towards the boat and untangled the line from the branch or I never would have caught her.
A beauty of a fish. 19 3/4 inch.
