Tequila, the frog I am having a crazy time getting a good cadence down to get them to bite. I've had 3 blow ups on them, but only hooked one fish. I'll keep at it and get it down pat on what it takes to get them to bite consistently. I do love the excitement of watching them blow up, now just gotta finish the rush with more hook ups.
Larry, it takes time but you will always get more blow ups than hits, and it isn't really you or the Frog it's more the fish and the angle they see the lure at. They have reverse refaction to deal with, sort of like when you're at the surface looking in, reaching for something in the water it's never right where you reach for it. Also while many ppl believe that Bass hit a topwater lure while it's standing still, this has rarely been the case. When I fish the in Florida, where I've had 7+ pounders drill the Frog.
Once in awhile I get a hit upon the frog hitting the water but more often than not it's when I twitch it or pop the popping frog and the hit is from behind the frog. (I believe that most Bass grab a frog by the hind legs and then turn the frog once in the mouth to swallow it). So never set the hook as soon as you see the hit, because in most cases you'll just rip the frog away from the Bass. Also away make hooksets straight up not to the side. I find for me the best hookset to get is in the roof of the mouth 3 to 4 inches in.
CF, the cavitrons are becoming my favorite buzzbait also. And like you said the wire is too thin, especially after you hook into a decent size fish. But that Channel destroyed my BRAND NEW buzzy. Now I have to keep fiddelin with it to get it to track properly, its running off to one side like a broken wing. I guess I will have to start throwing my bluegill colored buzzy now
