This little guy was sold to me as a Cuban Gar, keep in mind that I'm not from USA. Having a Tropical Gar as a pet is illegal here in my country, manly so people avoid fishing them in our rivers. This little guy was with other three in a lfs near my house, they also had a bigger one in a big tank so people can see it, and it was definitively not a Florida gar, so I'll leave you some pictures so you can judge!DSC07409.JPGDSC07406.JPGDSC07398.JPGDSC07405.JPG

check out the pinned topics and there are also photos of the different species on lepisosteidae.net. the latter site will be updating in the next month or two with more juvenile gar photos. Cubans are a different genus than Florida gars (the fish you have). snout in the former is much shorter and broader, longer and narrower in the latter. former fish is much stouter in stature and generally monochromatic with a bronze/gold color and sometimes a broad lateral olive lateral stripe when young....no spots though. Florida looks just like yours when young and will develop greener spots and larger spots as the fish grows older. good luck--

Ok! I will, I'll try to take a picture of the gar at the exhibition tank at the LFS, it really seems to be a cuban (thick body, short snout, olive color, no spots... etc)
