Thanks for the quick reply!

I have him in a tank with an air stone and every now and then he swims into the bubbles off the air stone is that normal?

Just a few questions, I put him in today at around 12 and also i bought 10 little harlequins as feeder fish and put them in aswell, He hasnt touched one yet but he could of been fed before i got him. The water has fogged up a bit since i put the Gar and the Harlequins in, Is there a reason for this? Also i have an airstone in the tank and the water temp is 25 degrees Celsius is this ok? At the minute he is lying on the bottom, I am guessing he is resting and that is normal behaviour?

25-30C should be good for it! and you don't really need the air stone unless you afraid the feeder fish will die, the water fogged up is normal since gar usually produce a lot of slim when you put them in a different environment.

yours is an alligator gar, and all gar are air breathing fish so they will take air from the surface just like betta and gourami. Alligator gar will grow very big so make sure you have the big tank/pond and money to keep it.

Guys ID this one for me? sorry the pictures are crappy, the fish has a light speckled body all over, clear underside and not many spots in its fins and tail
