I am about to be narrowed down to three pairs producing sellable fry. Obviously I will be holding back a few from each spawn for my own purposes, but essentially my colony will be splintered into three temporarily, two long term.
I now have a 40B in the basement for what I call my "production line" of HRPs. I'll have a colony breeding in there so I always have HRPs to sell.
The main colony in the 30 will be for the original goal of combining all the bloodlines. That tank has everything but my Chris Butcher + one of my pairs from Rusty in it right now, but I will be selling one of my TUIC males and possibly offloading one of my males from Rusty (because he has 0 iridescence), and then moving my other female from Rusty downstairs when I sell my female from Chris Butcher.
Right now, as previously mentioned the pair from Chris Butcher is downstairs, because I am due to sell the female and planned to have that female paired up with the wetspot male by now, but he would not pair up with her, so I'm producing more of that line for myself so hopefully one of their kids will pair up with him when he's ready. Excess fry from this pairing will be available in a few months. Also as previously mentioned, one of the females from Rusty (the smaller one with a lot of black) will pair to the Chris Butcher male once the female is gone.
I have a pair of really dark blue ones from Rusty in that tank too, but need to move them out to their own tank. The Chris Butcher pair split up once their fry became free swimming, so I tried pairing the male to the smaller Rusty female, but I think she might've spawned a few days prior so wasn't receptive and he started beating her ass, so I moved her out and figured that if he's gonna be aggressive and still defend his family like that I can put in another pair without fear of the female pairing to the male... And then the female tried to pair with the male, he rejected her, and now everything in the tank is fighting.
Works out anyway, as I wanted to breed the super blue ones to see how blue I can get their fry. Eventually I'll cross them back into the production line, because I want to see how blue I can get their fry first before I start breeding them back for colored gills and shape. I figure if they're super blue by the time I cross them in, outcrossing them don't do anything their color... Anything that can't be bred back in within a generation or two.
