Keeping Gar in a Pond?

So what would you recommend that I stock for gar food?

Rosies and Silver shiners or whatever they're called.

if you have to stock food then its not too good of an balanced pond

I put minnows in to improve the growth of the other fish. The other fish were growing pretty fast without the addition of extra minnows, but I wanted to make them grow even faster, so I probably have excessive food in there now.

probably. just be careful. it sounds like you have plenty of food

mosquito fish would be cheap, easy feeders

The quantity necessary would be off the chart (not to mention expensive)... they would all get eaten before a breeding population could be established.

I'd add lot more cattails and then add some mosquitofish. They'll establish themselves in no time in the cattails.
