Pure 100% Guinness and butter awesomesauce!!!!!

Thanks :)

You suck! I guess I should have tried that RO unit before I mailed them off to GA. :p

I'm more relieved than happy ;) Eggs are still there this morning. The rock is pretty close to some canister intakes... I guess I have a couple of days to figure out what to do...

I can't think of anyone doing more on MFK with SA cichlids than you right now Peter. Awesome stuff.

That's awesome. I hope the first batch makes it. That's the main reason I passed the fish on to you -- what's the point in keeping them here if they're not going to spawn for me? I felt like I was wasting an opportunity to make these guys more available in the hobby.

Krobia guianensis, on the other hand... I have three pairs out of eight fish and they are spawning everywhere. :nilly:

Very cool looking Acaras.

Pete I just saw this, how friggin cool is that! Congrats, finely (fingers crossed) we can get some of these amazing fish into the hobby. I'm very excited about this.

It's amazing how closely related species would prefer such different water parameters. The xinguensis became more and more active as I lowered the pH. I think they like plants too - there are several potential spawning sites and they picked the one with the most cover.

Thanks :)

Thanks Tom! So what should I expect now if thIngs go well? How long does it take for the eggs to hatch and what do they do with the wigglers?

The eggs will hatch in about 72 hours. The mother will then hide the wigglers under the rock or somewhere near the spawning site. Once they go free swimming she will heard them around the tank with the father guarding the area. If one strays to far from the swarm mom or dad will grab it in their mouth and spit it back into the swarm. At night she will put them into a pit or down under somthing and sleep over them. In another post I said I use and aged tank and let the fry graze on "stuff" for the first few days or so but they also take pulverized NLS or I've also use Hakari First Bites with success. after about a week or so BBS is added and between the two they do very well. The parents also seem to expell food from their gills that the fry feed off of. It took my pair about two spawns to get it right, now they are pros and have proven to be excelent parents. This last batch as been with them a little over two months now and they still watch them. They have spawned since but the older fish ate the fry. Hope this was helpful.

Thanks for the info Tom! There are some white eggs but most look normal. As long as the bad ones don't get too much fungi I think they will be fine. I removed all the dither orange heads last night so the parents don't get stressed out.

I got to this thread a bit late. Awesome Krobia! Congrats on the breeding. Peter, I've always admired the species kept by you and Ryan. I wish you continued success with this species in the future.

Thanks Al :) Looks like about half of the eggs are ok. The female moved them to a pit next to the rock. Bad/white eggs were left behind. Some eggs are starting to wiggle :)
