Lots of pics past and present

Natural sunlight I think is the reason for it.
My other tank I'd positioned where it receives an influx of sun light and the green algea grows rapidly.

In my big tank I never used to get much growth compared to the other tank.I added some branches from the tank shown above and it seems to have spread.
The other thing I have noticed is I get a lot more green algea growing on the Apple tree branches than I do on the oak ones.I don't know if there is any reason for that or just coincidence.

Love these pics. Interesting thing about the different woods and the algae.

what size is the tank with the sa's in it

You had me glued on my phone for the last two hours going thru this thread. Amazing.. all of your tanks are breathtaking.. love the result of your biotopes.
Some questions.. what are you feeding your fish? They look amazing.. and secondly, this may sound like a stupid question but in some of your tanks where its so heavily scaped, how do you go around vacumming sh*t out of it? Or do you not..

I need to find boulders like that

Thank you for the nice comments, glad you enjoyed the tanks.
As to feeding,it really depends on the fish I'm keeping.
The central Americans like the thorichthys I feed frozen daphnia, white shrimp, grated prawns, cooked peas and broccoli, tetra prima and spirulina flakes.
If the tank is a community I try to feed as varied a diet as possible in the hope all the fishes different dietary needs are met.
For south American fish I would feed roughly the same but I would also include bloodworms.
I never feed bloodworm to my central American cichlids.
As far as cleaning the substrate, I used to do half a water change and hoover where I could reach.I would then use the hose I fill the tank up with to blast the crap out I could not reach and hoover it once it settled.
Maintenance was a bit of a pain to be honest but I enjoyed the tank when it was over.

Thanks for the heads up
