MMA News and Notes

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
next gens will always improve, especially in a young sport that is constantly evolving

but it doesn't necessarily mean they will be better than those who cross over from other martial arts.

these young people who train mma from the get go are referred to as "new breeds." there are already tons of these new breeds currently active but some are successful at the highest level and some are not.

it depends on the athlete. in a lot of ways it's better for someone to have a strong background in one martial arts, then transition to mixed martial arts and learn other aspects of mma to keep the fight where they have the advantage. and someone who trains in mixed martial arts right away can be good at everything but end up not being great at anything.

but it all depends on the individual. talent, determination and dedication,.........all ingredients to be a good fighter no matter what their background

I can't disagree with this too much. the talent pool is very shallow. but mma needs wmma in order to continue growing

in ten years hopefully this won't be the case. we need a ton more of ronda rouseys

They said the same thing about the WNBA... but still 10yrs later, who cares??

I want to know WHO said this about the WNBA? I seriously don't recall it or get how it's connected to the NBA. The WNBA was so the women ballers could make money without going oversea. 10 years later, they've adjusted the season oversea and now the fem ballers are playing in both WNBA and Europe and China and gettin PAID mucho dineros

There's some hotties in the WNBA. the problem is you're seeing these ladies raw, not done up. I got some friends I thought were hot, then you're kicking it with no make up and messed up hair and you're like Dafuq????

I agree that their talent pool is shallow, but MMA needs WMMA like the NBA need the WNBA.

apples and oranges. some women fights are exciting as hell and more than some men

i would only imagine better women fighters will rise in the next few years. there's already some out there. more are to come. embrace it

eddie, you can thank your constable bottles for bringing the atrocious wnba into this angelic and majestic thread

I would rather keep the broads in a separate league (Invicta would be good), or just get rid of WMMA altogether.

The GOAT has spoken:
Fedor expanded further on the topic and outright stated that MMA is a man's sport and that women should be in sports where "they look like women."

"Women shouldn’t compete in UFC/MMA because this sport is for men," Emelianenko said through his interpreter. "There are a lot of sports where women look like women – like gymnastics, water sports, maybe some athletics.

"He’s telling that women shouldn’t fight. MMA is for men. It’s a man sport."

ufc will give wmma maximum exposure. as long as ronda is on top and raking in money for dana and the ufc, wmma isn't going anywhere
