Ha, I knew that question was going to come up. I don't have a complete cost but I estimate around $3,000. The glass alone was $1200. I got them from Glasscages.com. If I got them from a local supplier it would have cost almost triple. The next most expensive were the pumps. At $350 a piece I have two in there. Then the rest of the material and Wetsuit add up to the remaining.
Man That sucks you had to pay so much, GC is pretty expensive, I have a plastics place in my area that I got a qoute from last night on 1" and 3/4" Clear Cast Acrylic

495.00 for 4'x8'x1"
375.00 for 4'x8'x.75"

I Thought glass was cheaper I would have expected you only paying 500 for 2 sheets of glass.

Amazing build! I love how you used 2 pieces of glass for a huge viewing panel. Quit clever w/ the webcam as well. Good luck w/ the fill.

Actually GC came out a lot cheaper. As I stated I would have paid almost 3 times the cost if I got it from a local supplier. I think it has to do with being low Iron and 3/4" thick. I didn't want to go acrylic because of durability with scratching. Now looking back it might have been a good choice to go with 1" acrylic. Too late now....

Just a quick update. The tank is 3/4 full but I've had one minor disaster. I sprung a leak! No, not the tank. My webcam housing started leaking was the water pressure increased. When I tested it in the other tank I guess I didn't hold it down low enough or long enough to do a complete test. So now the web cam housing is half full of water. The leak stopped probably because the pressure inside is equalized from the outside. I think when I fill up the tank the web cam will be full of water. Oh well. Great idea poor execution I guess. I'll build another web cam but this time I'll just mount it outside.

Well the tank is water tight and no issues. There is some oozing from a joint in the overflow. I wouldn't even call it a leak because I get 2 drops over night. I could just leave it alone and call it a day but it bothers me. I'm trying to seal it with some plumbers epoxy. So far it's reduced but still a little moist. I put on a second layer so we'll see how that goes. If it stops than all systems go to turn on the monster pumps and start cycling.

I have a feeling I'll have to throttle back the pumps because it doesn't seem like the overflow drainage can keep up with the output of the pumps. Or maybe I don't have enough water in the system. I'm going to pump some water from an existing tank to start cycling and top off this tank. Then turn on the pumps and see how well everything flows.
