Funny this thread popped back up again, I actually found it through google today when doing some research. I remember when you built it and have always liked it. I think I am also going to be adding one very similar for my turtles in the next few weeks.

I love this pond! I am getting ready to attempt my first pond, and this looks like something I could do. Is there some way that I could get you to give me more details? Like, perhaps, what you used (sizes, etc.)? I am a total newbie at this and anything that you could tell me would make my day! :)
Take a look at this link, it has step by step instructions for timber ponds.

I am sorry yall..for some reason it didnt send me emails when replies were posted to only THIS thread...odd. Thanks for all the kind words...I will try to get some new shots of it currently. Its still doing great and looks more or less the same. My sister did kill a bunch of the fish on accident. I dont think I posted pics of all the the ones that are gone now but ill get some of the new ones. The turtle and them have been getting along just fine for some time now.

As for the cost I didnt keep track. It is cheap until you get to the filter and pump. All it is is just some wood foam sand and a liner. So get what ever pump and filter setup you like...im sure theres cheaper ways than the ones i have. I will say this....mag drive pumps hard and can take some abuse....because it clogs with leaves and junk all the time and a cleaning its right back to pumping. But that is why I dont like it...it clogs a lot since I have trees around. So you may want a pump with a better strainer on it. But it does keep on pumping strong so....

Putting it together was easy...just screws...and not a ton of them really. Each board is screwed to the next overlapping in the corners. Foam screwed in to hold it...lay sand and liner...fill...add fish and drink beer. Its really just that easy.

Thats pretty cool you foung this via a google search...glad to give ideas

NOLAGT, I also found a link to this thread on google images while searching for above gound ponds. I have zero experience in ponds and registered here because I'm planning on building something just like this. I'm pretty handy with wood and construction and don't forsee any problems with that aspect of it. However, I'm having a little difficulty understanding the plumbing aspect of it. Your filter is an all in one? Skimmer, biological, and uv? Your setup looks simple and thats what I'm going for. Are you happy with the end results or wood you go with a different filter? Also what about the pump, mag 18 are you happy with that or would you use something different? Thanks for any information, after looking at many above ground ponds...this is the one I want to build.

Glad to help. There is no skimmer...just the mag 18 on the bottom of the pond...inline I have a T with a ball valve so I can bleed off excess flow from the mag 18 AND to provide a little current in the pond. I just have the line going from the pump to the filter and then into the wood return. That simple...just use barbed elbows to make it route how you need to get it out the pond and into the filter. I think the mag 18 is a workhorse and flows well....but the prefilter isnt so great and it gets clogged with leavs since I have trees nearby. I have bio and UV in the fliter too....it has worked so far.

Which Tetra model did you go with, the 1500? Do you think the UV in that unit is enough? when you get a chance, can you post a new photo of how your water clarity has maintained. Thanks!

I will have to double check but I think it was the 1500. I think the UV is enough for my size pond and the sunlight it receives. I will try and get some new pics but it has been pretty clear the whole time. Only thing I dont like is the mag 18 pump gets clogged easy with the strainer it came with so the filter slows to almost nothing and that effects the pond slightly sometimes.
