It is amazing to see your pond. We have 2 turtles that we have for quite some time. One for 15 years and another for 2 years. We recently built an above ground pond enclosure and I will post picks of it soon, but we are considering rebuilding since it wasn't the best job. The weather here in Hawaii is getting to it because we didn't seal the wood enough. So, alas we are researching better methods and we have definitely fell in love with yours. The only thing we are considering is making it to where they can crawl out onto a land based platform (as we did with our recent pond). We are wanting to use your method, but split the pond in half (or 1/4) to actually make a piece of land for them to climb out on. We have had the same issue with them getting out onto a floating platform as our turtles are getting larger and heavier for anything we could find to hold them.
Thanks for the posting of your photos and ideas, they are a huge help for the visual concept. We are a military family and have to move quite often so it should prove to be easy enough to disassemble when we need to relocate. Oh, one question...do you think that with your type setup a submursable pump/filter is feasable to do the job? I ask that because we can't really get into the enclosure of a pump since move so often. We have one that literally just sits down in the pond (55 gallon) and it works fantastic. We are going to be doing away with the preformed and doing what you did but wanted to see what you thought about the type of pump/filter we have. (we also have 4 small feeder in the pond and they seem to live better than they did in our household aquarium).

Blessings,
Kim

I am so glad that my post has helped yall. The way I have it built other than undoing a ton of screws would be easy to tear down and move. Might take a day but its can be done. I would also build some sort of land area...I am wanting to do that too and will be looking into that this summer. As for the pump/filter...all i have is that one submerged pump just laying in the pond but as for a internal filter it would depend. I have not looked at them much but there may be something that works well. Let me know if you have any more questions...i'll be glasd to help anyway that I can.

No idea I didnt track it but it would be easy once you get your measurements of what you need to get a price idea...theres not a lot to it.

I am planning on making the same pond in my backyard. I have read about people using all thread on the corners of logs; however, I would prefer using screws.

Did you have to use heavy duty lags, or did you just use long wood screws?
