Very Cool! That's the one that s over 10 yrs old? and been through hell and high water?
That's the one. Easily the biggest fish in there, it was close when we got the first tancho but he eats like a pig and has already grown a fair bit since he's been in there.

amazing how a fish that has'nt grown much in 10 years can take off like that when given the right growing conditions again. they look great happy and healthy. keep it up
He's grown alright in that time, you've just got to remember this was on natural food alone in a small pond.

There is a tiny hole in the ground where I fish from time to time that was pretty undisturbed for many years that holds carp over 10lbs. The kids have moved in over the years and ruined it with excess litter, but carp do grow large naturally.

I emailed the vid to Nige who runs the koi place near me and got a 'our koi rule' type response and they are very good fish, but I'll alway remember the not so big Kelvin jumping out of the holding pond when we extended my Dad's pond. Coming back from a night shift randomly I checked the pond and watched him jump out of the new bit into the old drained pond at about 5am. I picked him up and put him back and now 10 or so years later he's with me.

Yes you can buy some really big, nice koi from a dealer but when I think about the luck involved with being there at the right time, I'm glad the big boy is happily retiring/growing in my pond:)

I'm aiming at re-doing all the flags to get this thing perfectly level this weekend and I hate the filter covers and by a stoke of luck I think I'v got the solution. Obviously weather permitting, the weather centre predicted a huge heatwave this summer and have said whoops we got that wrong.

Don't worry though, global warming is real, the prediction system is so accurate is can mess up a month in advance but the 100 year system is still saying we'll all be underwater:ROFL:

It was time to stop using the 'I don't do shifts anymore and have time excuse' and get around to sorting out the flagging:

As you can see the water line is way off, the far end is weigh too high as is the RHS, after an age of measuring it turns out the left side is mainly to blame. All the side and the far end has been ripped up and leveled off. Due to running out of sand it didn't get finished today but the LHS is almost redone and it looks 100 times better. Once that side is finished off it's just a matter of the far end which looks worse than it is, turns out I just used too much mortar under the flags at that end. I've also added a load of rocks to the right side which will be filled in with pea gravel to match the flags, hopefully this time next week it will all be done. Then I've got to build more patio to the left of the pond and sort out the filter cover. I managed to get hold of some second hand decking which I'm going to build a box over the filters with.

Once all that is done, I'm going to invest in a CL type filter as the return, mount the uv vertically in the input of the filter and then I can flag it where the UV is now. If I can get all that done this year I'll be happy. Then there is just the mess that is the left of the deck to sort out:nilly:

The flagging is almost sorted, ran out of sand for the last couple. Pictures to follow later.

All done, the difference is hard to tell from the pictures but the whole left side has been relaid, as has the back and 3 flags on the left. The pond is low because the blanket weed is dieing off and I've just cleaned out the filters. Waiting for nature to fill it back up again.

Looks a hundred times better but I know everyone will scratch their heads wondering what's changed;)

Cheers Bro. It was a real pain, everything needed measuring flag by flag but it's done now, and it's raining to fill it back up again:)
