New project, will take a long time

I see, I see, all surface area and not a lot of depth...good call, less filtration needed as well.

He can probably get by with a small "Bakki shower" type filter and an air pump...

I can't see a bakki shower going in they are becoming more and more common over here on the more serious installs. The cost factor puts a lot of people off with the price of genuine BHM, I've heard of next to non that are running the media due the stupid cost of it. Everyone is getting great results without it.

The biggest problem is the noise, a full 4 tier shower running at about 10000 liters per hour would make a hell of a din.

The plan is a aerated bottom drain, nothing fancy just enough to do a job and from then a simple filter system, I'm guessing canisters with a low turn over rate, it's not my money so I can only advise and help out.

I will of course document the thread with Dan's permission.

Monster hole update:

Pond is still brown but clear almost to the bottom as the oxidized pp wears off, running fine filter foam again in the nexus to help. Fish are going mad for food, the pond just looks like it's had a few teabags in it for while, getting better every day. It can take about 7 days to fully clear after a treatment. Sturgeon is fine.

Excellent...I did a mini bakki shower and the noise was acceptable, and I ran SCRUBBIES for media, worked fine...1000gph on a 600 gallon pool...

So is that bakki shower still running? I'm thinking of building one for my 3,500g pond, and building it to possibly empty into one end of my bog filter. I'll have to build it out of wood and find a way to make it look a little more decorative, as it wouldn't fit in with the yard just being pvc pipe...

Well, mine would be sitting literally right next to the back deck of the house, near where people would be sitting, and would provide a backdrop for the bog filter (if that's where I put it). I'd want/need it to look like part of the landscaping at least. Unless I decide to put it behind the skimmer, against the fence, and then it would just need to blend in with the fence.

Could you not construct a fake summer house type design and use a false wall and hide it there?

Doesn't need to be anything fancy just a pergola with a hidden wall?

There is a possibility of something like that. The bog filter is positioned at one corner of the deck. There will be a pergola over that end of the deck, and a "solid" wall of trellis or some other material on the side around the corner from the bog filter. I could possibly stash it back there, although space would be tight. I would also have issues with returning the water to the pond from there.

I'll have to look over some options later this week. I'm sure I can figure it out so it looks good and still works :).

BTW, sorry to derail. I wish my pond looked 1/100th as good as yours!!

I've owned this fish for about3 months now, I've always wanted a proper tancho kohaku so I bought the fish and just had to make sure the pond was finally right before she could come home.
At least I didn't have to feed her;)

The dark bit I've circled underneath is a stone on the bottom

Only a baby at about 6'', she's got fantastic skin, the only slight blemish is a gin scale near the dorsal. I'm not complaining, for a shed load of money she's worth it.
