They can be bought, previously owned, at a much reduced price ;)
...It's not like there is alot of parts to wear out.

Oops, just realized I didn't answer the question, sorry. Yes, that's the waste pipe, the crap ends up going down there, technically it cleans it's self and the waste ends up working down to the bottom. I won't lie it does need a hose down every now and again. I've got the waste piped underneath to a soak away behind the unit.

Oh, the point of checking the thread.....

Sorry for the lack up updates, but there has not been anything to update.

Fish are good, no problems/disease/deaths. Pond is not clear, but clear enough, you can see the bottom, so that is well.

Now the update, I've been busy with various other non fish related things so I've had no time to work on the pond, everything is effective done and working so I've not got around to doing the other things.

The time has come to fill in the the old filter pit so today has been spent concreting the pipe extension in as I didn't fancy having the pipework covered in earth without a bit of protection. How exciting was that! :nilly:

Fun and games....

Well after feck knows how long we decided on a new return
(a pipe hanging over the pond is not good enough) and it turns out to be a massive clay pipe, that's been sorted and is in but the concreting in of the big pipe has caused problems. We've had biblical rain(like when we had the cave in and for the first time since) and this has reduced space in the bottom of the old pit which(at the moment) runs into the new pit so everything got very very wet. The concrete has forced the water that does collect in the bottom(it is a big hole in the ground) into the new pit and this afternoon the wife heard a very strange noise coming from the pond area. Turns out that the non submersible pump had gone submersible, how it didn't blow I'll never know.

Out comes the portable pump to drain everything off, everything is plugged back in again and all is fine, somehow:nilly:

I've got some pictures of the latest bits but I'll just do a big picture update when we are done.

To finish this year is:

a: build a wall for between the new and old pits
b: do the filter shed.
c: patio over the old pit.

Next year:

a: create second feed from the pond for the fractionator.
b: done, although a pond is never finished, but finish the garden.

Just a note for people who are new to the thread/in general, electricity and water mixed not can, will kill.
I have an RCD on the separate feed to the shed(existing)from the meter that goes to a second RCD that runs to a socket RCD on and extension that runs to the power at the business end of the pond that, guess what has another RCD on it.

I thought it wasn't good to daisy-chain RCD/GFIC (assuming they're the same)? Something about the first one being tripped by others down the line, meaning its hard to keep the line hot at the end. Maybe It's different in the states than it is in the UK though...

Well I've never heard of that, having said that I'd never heard of an schuko adaptor until I nearly killed myself last night, big thanks to who ever invented the low wattage pump.:nilly:
