Prickly sculpin!

I had a sculpin tank about 10 years ago. I had a few deepwater sculpins, 4 mottled and a spoonhead. They were so much fun. I sold them off when I got kids and a wife so, I'll have to catch more soon. I usually get them smelting in the spring. They're such personable little buggers and easy to keep.

Your tanks are awesome and my wife won't thank you for the reinspiration!

sculpin lovers are far and few between ^_^

i have 1 large prickly 1 med 1 small prickly and had 2 mottled but i believe one has become Angry fish's lunch.

They are great and full of personality, nothing quite like them^_^
mine are all fresh water.but there are some amazing salt water types! once i get in to salt water.. OOooo the possibility.

thank you ..and tell your wife its not my fault!

so...have not updated these guys in a while.

Tank;

...Scott went to a new home...he was the larger of the 3 small sculpin i had. he was a Prickly and MEAN....hens the name Scott..anywhere here are his last pics. He was rehomed for being to mean..and not allowing the smaller fish to eat.
Tribute to Scott;

One of the Mottled sculpin were eaten by Angry fish when Scott was chasing him around, two remain, one Prickly and one Mottled, both are still shy from Scott's anger but they are slowly coming out more(and pigging out now that they can get to food....pics to come).

i added 2 nirate snails to the tank..they seem to be doing a great job at cleaning up im thinking of 4-5 more.

And last but not least my mini beast^_^ Angry fish AKA Shelob

Picks look great! I'm going to be moving my two Mottled sculpin from the 55 gallon darter tank two their own tank. I'm thinking about putting them in a 20 long.

20 long might be a bit small for 2....but if you have enough hiding places you might be ok, they can get really mean over space.

once Scott was gone every one settled down in the 40..and seem to be getting along great, but we shall see as the mottled and prickly juveniles grow. right now they are both around 2 1/2 -3 inches.

when the water gets low at my collection spot, im gonna get me some more. Last year saw a piebald dace and white sculpin, but couldnt catch either sadly. Maybe this year!!

Update with out pics
I think my camera is dieing!!!

anyway,

I have two HOB filters running on this tank,
i started with on Marineland 50, with 200 gph
and..an unknown old filter rated for a 20 gallon tank
I ran across great sale for a Penn-Plax Cascade 300 for 35$ rated for 100 gallons

so now i have the Cascade 300, at 100 gallons of filtration @ 300gph
and the Marineland bio wheel rated for 50 gallons @ 200gph

lol so my filtration for my 20 gallon high is 150 gallons at 500 gph
..i think i have enough filtration.
the filters are located on the sides of the tank as well it gives allot of nice movement with out making whirlpools.

The tank is under stocked...with the one large sculpin about 6 inches and shes almost full grown, the two smaller sculpin around 3 inches, and an assortment of feeders at any given time.

in two weeks i might be adding two purple spotted gudgeon, witch will call for another rescaping.
Not sure about the gudgeon with the cooler temps in the tank though, it ranged from about 67-74o

..so maybe a video is about due ^_^.
