Probably mottled, it was in the north branch of the patapsco. I won't be collecting them either, Maryland law say's non residents cannot use a net of any form, except a landing net. I don't think that I can get em by hand, although I may tie up some itty bitty little flies and try to get some on my 2 weight.

Thats great!!! save them for me :) ill start getting a 40 breeder ready, hope you dont mind if i copy your setup :) thats the drawback to doing good work, People wanna copy it LOL
Saved! i will have at least two.. a Mottled and a Prickly to rehome...maybe a one more witch would probably be another prickly.

ill contact the guy at the LFS and make sure he will help me ship!

and copy away...though i think you guys are being to nice..this is a shoe string budged literally, most of this was lucky finds on CL and cheap cheap stuff...like 7$ lights from Walmart lol. lots of time collecting rocks and logs to get the right fit.

and what i do for deco is....i think about what the fish would be most comfortable in... lots of "cover" so large leafs for a canopy affect and logs...there is not many places where the larger one can be fully out of sight but she dose not seem to mind...she thinks she is hidden as long as something is "over her"...witch is why i have the log suspended and all the anubia makes a canopy affect witch seems to please her to no end...being that she is all over the tank at all times of the day..other than directly on top of the log.(though i just got val gras..so when that grows in and the pennywort she might be out there to with the lights on)
I go for an enriched environment witch is why i continue to feed her live food even though she eats pellets.
i cussed at those logs soooo many times in the set up of this tank...grr to them!!!! GRRRRRRR.

May I recommend a tank of the month submission? Your tanks look awesome! I just recently turned up a location for collecting some sculpins, when I get some tank space I'll probably try them out. Not sure what species, I did not have a net handy and i could not catch the speedy little buggers by hand. Interesting is that i did manage to get a few darters. Go figure.
aw see there you guys go again..^_^ thank you.. i enjoy my tanks allot.
I did throw a pic up under "so you think you can get tank of the month" and got a little response.... maybe ill snap a few new ones and try ^_^

And catching suclpin by hand is fun.....but hard and done best with the smaller ones you can literally trick them in to jumping in to your hand...its the jumping out before you get them that is the tricky part lol. got a couple last year that way..let them go but it was only after like an hour of trying laying down in the rocks mostly under water lol good thing it was a hot day.

if you try fishing for them....live night crawlers will get them hitting like no tomorrow..i have never seen a sculpin be able to resist a wiggling worm.

u can easily catch them by hand! very easily.

Really? I'm no novice to catching fish by hand, was quite notorious for it when I was a kid. That was probably because I grabbed a stingray and dragged it out of the surf when i was a kid. I couldn't understand why my mom was hitting me and cussing.........
anyway's, they were not out in force. I had to flip rocks over to get to them, and of course by the time I located them in the mud, they were on high alert.

more update shots^_^.

first post was Angery fish..shes about 6 inches now(prickly sculpin)

This is Scot..(if you watch south park.look up the Canadian Christmas one...youll understand his name)

Scot is a stealthy hunter...........lol Scot is a 3 inch prickly sculpin
here are a few random shots of the others in the tank .the two mottled have been driven in to hiding by Scot...
but the smaller prickly is still out and about.

Very cool mini monster! They're hard to find in my area.

and thats sad..they are every where around here.

in the spring i can go to the lake and catch 100s of fry about 1/4 inch long with nothing more then a net and some rock turning..its fun and i let them all go after looking over the types i find, Mostly mottled and prickly.
