I been in this hobby since 1986 and own all size fish an I have developed a great eye on sizing fish down to 1"-2" I personally have own a 21" umbee and he was no where close to the size of that fish, an if you think that blue male dovii is 20-24" I can tell you that you off by 10" lol unless the old male died an a new one became dominated but hey that's just my opinion. But I no one thing all of us would luv to have him.

I'm judging on comparison to the arapaima (forgive the spelling if it is incorrect) and the pacus in the tank. The arapaima is maybe 7 or 8 feet long? Although they weren't right next to each other, the biggest dovii is about 1/4 the length of the arapaima. In any case, it is a magnificent specimen, with a nuchal hump the size of a baseball. Nothing really to argue about, it is a big *** fish that I couldn't imagine keeping in most home aquariums.

I too have heard that the dovii were introduced to the tank from outside sources. There used to be some big midevils in the tank as well.

I was at the zoo on Sunday and it is hard to get a good read on the biggest male, but I would estimate somewhere around the 20-24 inch mark. It was amazing to see two things in such a large tank - 1, the multiple females protecting a swarm of fry (at least 3 that I could see and probably a some in the overflows as well) in a tank that has 6 foot aripimas and a school of huge pacu and the relative aggression between the multiple dovii. Even in a 13,000 tank, there was a definite dominant male and the others, including the females, looked a little on the ragged side from what I can only assume is aggression.
This is why its hard for me to listen to others opinions. This is what you called a ragged dovii, this fish is bigger and more impressive than all the dovii ive seen on this board. in your own words a ragged dovii.

This is the monster, it is hard to judge size in such a huge tank. The thing is i have fish in the 17-24 inch range and this fish is much bigger than they are ill still say this fish is pushing 30 inches. Its seems like the new trend on this site is to try to prove dovii dont really get as big as they do, and that umbee get bigger than they really do. REEK thanks for being honest and not biased cause i know u love your umbee. This dovii is a monster.

My point was there is aggression in the tank, even with it being 13,000 gallons. You just posted that you missed getting a video of the males fighting. I apologize for not being specific. Guess I didn't see any fish with torn fins or missing scales.

Definitely not 30'' , but a big dovii, none the less.

This is the largest Verfied Wild dovii EVER caught.
It is 26'' and weighs 13lbs

2'' longer and 3lbs heavier than the largest Verified Wild Umbee ever caught.

Just so you guys can scale it, a pacu at its LARGEST will be 3feet. or 36''s and those pacu in there are FAR larger than the dovii. and once again, that is the absolute MAXIMUM for a pacu. So, it is probably safe to say, they are not that large.

Just came back from the zoo, saw the exhibit while impressive they are no more than 25 or 26". The glass makes them look huge but if you go upstairs and look down, their true size can be easier to estimate.
