5 of the Most Abused Fish in the Industry

around my place, their in reasonable volume for the size with N.F.S displayed and if they go it's like ~$500 a pop. i would think the buyer knows what he/she doing.

but oscars i agree. an intelligent animal needs a comfortable home.

Yeah, you got it right. Goldfish is top 1!

Like I said, I listed them in no particular order.

In no particular order, I would say these 5 are probably the worst treated in the industry:

Oscars
Pacus
Common Plecos
Bettas
Goldfish

Anyone agree? Any you think are treated badly?

The goldfish treatment is just brutal. Plecos are probably the only ones that don't look quite as bad. Oscar, Pacu, and Goldfish just look horrible at big chain stores.

The number one cause of pleco death is starvation.

it's not a fish but yesterday i was at hallmark yesterday and they're selling dwarf frogs? First wth is a card store doing sell dwarf frogs and second, not a fish but definetely one of the most abused wet pets found in the pet store industry.

above is what they're selling them in for 30 bucks each. no filter, no heater obviously

I'd say the #1 cause of pleco death is being introduced into an uncycled tank....

I know some one who has one of those. Told him for $10 more he could have gotten a 5 gallon tank a couple of those.

yupp oscars. goldfish. pleco. pacus. jags. and believe it or not, jack dempseys. i seen 10 inch sometimes a foot long plecos in a 55....

Our lfs got in three 6 inch jack dempseys that were kept in a 10 gallon. One looked ok but the other 2 were horribly stunted.

-Not a fish, but here in Mexico the red ear turtles ("japanese turtles") are horribly abused.

see and thats why i say male jacks should be in a 75 min. they can and wil reach a foot in length which a 55 is wide. a female solo may work in a 55 but i would still say a 75 for a female to.
