Drawing down that much water takes me a long time, too. I’ll have to just scape the tank, see how long that takes to build/rebuild, and decide from there. I kinda need to experiment.

But I’m definitely gonna try it. I love the look, and I need to do something to add cover and break lines of sight in my tank.

Thank you. My secret is I lower the water level until only the fishes bodies are covered. This makes it easy to net fish out and I find that I only have to remove a few pieces of wood to net the fish out.

Thank you brother! Saw your post also. Good luck with finalizing your new stock and congratulations on the refresh. Nice to change it up.

First, these are NOT my pictures. I took these off the web. I decided to make this a Panamanian set up instead of a Usamacinta set up. The two species will be Darienheros Calobrensis and Parachromis Friedrichshtali (formerly Loisellei). The Ctenokucius Hujeta will come back in here after the cichlids are added.

Thinking of wanting to do a third species of cichlid that stays smaller to take advantage of the smaller caves in the scape and am torn between Amatitlania Nanoluteus or Myrnae. The latter being easier to source right now.

Or I could use up the tank space with a dither/target fish. It’s impossible to find characins from Central America and larger SA characins that are available either are too small, they get too big, or they eat plants. Thinking the west African Bryconalestes Longipinnis would be a nice substitute and will get to 5-5.5”. That should work with the Loisellei. At least for a while.

also including a quick pic of the center of this scape. Did some more fine tuning of the wood and decided to post a pic.

After speaking with Dan it appears the Calobrensis will not work with the loisellei. A shame. Good to know since there is literally nothing out there on the web about them.

Decided to roll the dice and get the Darienheros and Loisellei (Friedrichshtali). Wish me luck.

Good luck! Both calobrensis and loisellei are on my short list.. but I've read the calobrensis can be rough and I don't have a spare 6 footer to dedicate to one species atm.. maybe you'll have success with your size tank and all the structure in there... ?

Thank you. I’ll keep posting in them when I get them so that some info regarding their care is available on them. Not much on the web about em.
