Yep... If you look at the trees here in Florida (saw this in San Juan too), the ones that are allowed to grow up into the tree are generally a lot larger and denser with leaves. The vine actually turns woody and is at least 2" in diameter.

In the spring I plan on moving this sump outside. I will then be able to allow the pothos to grow up a tree or up a tall trellis.
That would be cool!

It's cool seeing the roots grow it seems like every day they grow more. Here's a pic compared to the pic of when they were first put in the tank a few weeks ago. There's new leaves all over em too.

Thanks I think it's my t5 that's get them growing like that. My pothos never grew such long roots before.

Hey everyone! Been giving it my all to read through this great thread! A little funny, I've read about pothos a few times in the past and for some reason I had been under the assumption that this was some rare aquatic plant that none of my Lfs seem to ever carry. Somewhat mind blowing when I read this thread and learned its true identity! Haha! Had one of these plants for awhile and was messing around with cloning for a bit so decided to cut a chunk and stick it in my HOB filter to see if it would take root.(Obvious after reading the thread, but it took off and is still flourishing about a year later). Now in the process of adding a bunch more and I thought I would chime in with a helpful suggestion for removing them from the soil. I filled a 5gal bucket about 3/4 and took the whole root mass and soil and soaked it for the day while at work. Loosened everything up and made it much easier and less messy getting the rest of the soil off! Hope this helps everyone and saves your bathtubs! I'll post some pics when I'm finished with the project! Thanks for the awesome thread MOD!

way to much to read but great job all. Are there any other plants similar to Pothos? Something a little more appealing to the eye :)

Not sure how it will do or if it has the nitrate removing capability of pothos but I'm also trying peace lilies now.

T5's will definitely supercharge the Pothos! Thats awesome. Do you have a pic of the light setup?

1st off most lfs dont know about pothos power, i actually gave one of mine a link to my sticky and they implemented soon after reading all the great results! Pretty funny its a common plant at hardware stores and nurserys!

2nd im not a mod, just a member who documented an easy way to mount pothos and reap the benefits. Don't get me wrong i surely wasnt the 1st but imo i broke it down and simplified the process making it more accessible to begginers and veterans and it was lucky/informative to become a sticky! But thr best part is knowing how many more happy healthy fish there are in the world because of this write up and all the members who helped make it great!

Lastly using a nice bathtub is a horrible idea, especially when your girlfriend damn near lives in it! Good idea with letting it soak for awhile making it loosen up!

Appreciate your contribution and look forward to seeing your finished setup!

Top floating plants like duckweed are decent for nitrate reduction but bang for you buck hands down pothos is the best! I think it looks great, not only the broad colorful leaves but even the root mass that the fish can hide in which is especially nice if you have fry!

You may experience 1/3-1/4th the reduction if your lucky (if you put 30 lillies in your tank you may come close?) it just doesnt grow as fast as big and as easy!

If you think ivy is an eyesore then you can certainly use a hood or canopy to contain the plant and light! Just an idea

It's nothing special right now. I plan on building a canopy like the one in your build thread once I get the tools too. ImageUploadedByMonsterAquariaNetwork1387497399.872421.jpg
