Usually they leave roots alone.
my only burden to pothos is the huge root mass taking up tank space.
But in all reality that extra filtration is well worth it...and im sure the fish agree.
Usually is right, uaru on the other hand seem to be hell bent on destroying and eating anything plant-based, including driftwood! I've found that even tough plants like anubius that are usually ignored get chewed on by uaru. I guess it's just a case of try it and see.

WOO!!! I finally managed to find some pothos for sale here!! Question for all those growing it in sumps or away from natural light, how much lighting do you need to keep in growing well? I understand it "tolerates" low light, but the little I know about plants tells me that more light = more growth [so long as the nutrients are there too], so to make it more efficient at removing the nitrate I want to make sure it has enough light to grow steadily.
I went to NYC this weekend my mom gave me a few more pothos. This is what I got now. I think I might plant a few in soil and let them grow more. View attachment 937818

Just use a cheap cfl bulb to help grow the faster, also snip the roots a inch or two to further quicker acclimation.
