Cheap plants, less nitrate! POTHOS

I hopped on the pothos train a couple weeks back. View attachment 937948

It may be my little smart phone screen but that entire plant looks to be underwater? Leaves will die if left submered, best for roots to only be in h20.

You mean cut the roots back closer to the stem? And how much of the stem do you put under water? It looks like new roots are forming along the stem at the base of the leaf stalk.

If hydro roots have already grown (skinny/longer) just let it be! But when 1st planting from soil to water always trim roots to acclimate quicker!

To provide lighting for pothos, what do you think about putting some of the leaves directly under a led lighting fixture? There's about an inch of clearing space between the bottom of my led light fixture and the top of my tank and i just tried to put the leaves right underneath the fixture. I don't have much sunlight or room light on that tank so I tried to squeeze them under my tank lights.

Some led fixtures have no appropriate Kelvin rating for plants, meaning their strictly for lighting the tank/fish (aka useless for plants) Try a cfl rating from 5k-7k.

Or better yet what led lighting do you have ATM?

I added some pothos to my 225 maybe a year ago-ish, and they've gone insane. Very large leaves, and 6-9 foot long stems. Definitely a nice addition to the aquarium.

Yea mine are tipping 3-4'. Lovin it!

F1: No there is about 6-7" of water in there. It's in a hydro pot with pea gravel.

Ohhh. Taking a closer look at the pic I realize the water is barely above the Bio. Pretty cool setup and way of planting pothos! Thanks for sharing :)

What are you using to allow them to float with leaves above water line?

All my vines are sitting on a hood. But I've used airline holders and soap holders before when they was shorter.
