I recently fould a great holder for pothos. Sink sponge holder works great even have suction for back of tank
F*&%ing GENIUS! I've been sitting around thinking how to do this in my tank half the day, drinking water, and I look right at my wife's sponge holder and never thought to use it. I'll go down and buy 6 of those, cut a bunch of plants from my mom's front yard. Done. Awesome idea, man.
Pothos makes managing cichla much easier
Thanks F1 VET!

Cutting the roots tends to help. You have pretty small fish for a 200gal. Could be lack of fish waste. Try overfeeding a tad and perhaps test your nitrate/ammonia levels.
Do you have a pic of the said "pothos?"

I don't have a pic atm, but i'll try and take a pic from my mobile and post it tomorrow. The tank has been running for just a couple of months now and the plants have been added a month ago. I'm planning on adding more fish and more plants as I go. Yesterday I added a little 4" clown knife to the tank and I'm overfeeding since i'm growing them out. I'll keep everyone here updated on the plants.
I have pothos in all my tanks, if the fish try to eat it (already happened with my chocolate cichlid and my turtle) I just put it right in the filter. I've noticed a hue difference in the nitrates and couldn't be happier about it.
Going strong!
Still going strong on n03 reduction at approximately 25ppm per week. Basically cut my Bio load in half and I haven't tested with the addition of the 2nd plant I added 4-5 weeks ago!
I've pothos plant in my aquarium with roots just dangling inside(F1 VET STYLE) .At first the plant took off nicely for 2-3 months,It's leaves doubled in size and numbers and the roots were growing everyday (nice white roots) and it even reached the substrate.I even had new shoots grow inside the aquarium and emerge out of the water. However for the last 4-5 months it kinda slowed down drastically.even the roots started to turn mushy brown and just melt.i haven't had a new leaf in the last month and iam loosing leaves at regular intervals. It has some kind of brown algae stuck to it's roots.i have good water movement near the roots via an air stone and canister output. And it has a reasonable bioload 3 fancy and 2 carp (50-60 gallon) .It is situated next to a window and gets indirect sunlight throughout . It even gets direct sun for abt 2-3 hrs.So i dont think it is (slow & dying growth) due to the lack of light or nutrients in the water. Can anyone please tell what is wrong with the system all of a sudden considering that it really flourished initially...Should i use a supplement like seachem flourish for boosting it's growth??Any kind of valuable information is much appreciated for a poor soul ...

Sounds like the algae is competing with the pothos and imo the direct sunlight is the reason why you have algae problems in the tank, is it ONLY growing on roots or other parts of the tank? If sun is shining into the tank that isn't ideal for the plant. Try adding a cheap cfl dome clamp on light like I did (10$ @walmart or lhs w/ bulb) make sure cfl is 6500k. And stop the sunlight via shades/shutters or w/e. Also very high nitrates could cause this.
Do you test water? If so ammonia/nitrite/nitrate levels plz!
Also trim the roots back and ANY dead or decaying yellowish leaves off to focus growth back to the plant!
A picture would help!
