i can understand rumblesushi wanting to have channa tankmates. When you like sh, you probably like 4 or 5 or 6 more other kind of fish. While I like micropeltes, i also like barramundi, pb, arap and of coz asian aros. I can only have ONE tank and therefore I'm always thinking how i could get a least one other species to live in "harmony" with my micropeltes.

Given time, PLENTY of patience and TONS of tank space, I believe you can comm sh with some species of fish. Just my personal opinions.

my opinion is that sh are really mean and fierce, therefore, i wouldnt consider putting other fishes with it...

maybe a sh community would be fine... they are mean machines....

Thankyou SG, finally someone who understands.

Ps - for all you cichlid nuthuggers, take a look at SG's ubervideo and tell me if you think an 11" cichlid could rip an 8 inch clarias clean in half :)

Jags are over-rated aggresion wise, IMO.. Sure, ya, they attack the glass and bite your hand yada yada yada.. But I have seen them get the CRAP beat out of them multiple times, by cichlids that 'shouldn't' stand a chance judging by their initial aggressiveness.. I had a 12" Oscar beat the crap out of a 12" Jag.. The oscar was a big puss usually, and never attacked anyone, while the Jag would SLAM its face against the glass to bite people..

I would try a larger Buttikoferi.. Or possibly a large Pike Cichlid? Either way, the sharp teeth that the channa bears is really no match for any other Cichlid.. Cichlids want to fight mouth to mouth, and do their 'territory' war.. While the Channa would rather just dart around and rip things to shreds..

Good Luck! Keep trying! I would suggest to you that you take the Channa out before introducing new tankmates, as well as re-arranging the decor. I would always take my cichlids out and put them in a bucket for 4-5 hours when introducing a new cichlid, or they would kill it over territory battles. Possibly take the Channa out, and drop them in at the same time.. Some people use this method with Saltwater Angelfish, as they are suppose to be highly aggressive towards each other, but it can happen..

for someonewho wants to have tankmates with your sh you sure don't seem to hard to accomodate tut just bask in the glory of your sh, and for your info i have had a dovii, 2 RT's, 2 Jags, 5 oscars, 2 Texs(pearl), 1 butterkoferi, 2 midas, 1 RT, 6 JDs, so if you were wondering what kind of experience i have had there you go, and i'll tell you what when my motag gets about 7" long i will pick up a sh, and just toss him in there and see what happens, not to mention it doesn't seem like you make of an effort to make the tank relationships work you just toss them in there, it is not a fair fight, you would think someone that is trying to make a commmunity out of aggressive would of thought of that but.... you can't always be right :screwy:

fair enough yes, but you've never owned a snakehead so your opinion is meaningless.

Just watch SGland's video of his snakehead vs clarias then ponder a while, if you're being objective you should realize what an aggressive channa is capable of.

Once again the voice of reason

That does not surprise me at all, I love oscars, they are intelligent brave fish.

And you're absolutely right Miles, all the cichlids I've seen fight, including dovii and jags and pike cichlids just lip lock, toe to toe brawl.

And yep, all the channa does is dart around at high speed repeatedly striking the opponent. It's not even a fight, the channa is too fast, too agile, and has a huge mouth full of teeth.

Io suggested a pike cichlid but for now I'm not going to try anything else. The dovii is toast. It would be pointless to try anything else now. Maybe when he's in a huge planted tank I may try another.

And for anyone who thinks an 18 inch dovii would beat a 4 foot snakehead -

The dovii would charge it and attempt a lip lock, the channa would just bite it's face off :D

Oh and ps - my motives are very much genuine. I don't like to see fish get tortured or die needlessly, that's why I rescued the jag I put in there, but this thread was in part designed to tease the cichlid nuthuggers.

my opinion isn't meaningles bud, and i watched the video, have you ever seen a wolf cichlid eat? i mean a big male? how is your opinion worth anyhting your experiences are unfair to the other fish give them a fair chance, then i'll respect it until then you are just someone who is abusing the right to buy and own fish, you are puting them into a stressful situation and not giving them a chance to get comfortable, and a cichlid can change and time and any day, i've seen it happen a number of times, the wimps can become complete asses
