Lots of pics past and present

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The tanks looking really good. I like the new additions, got a big soft spot for apistogramma.
Thanks Dan.
It's been years and years since I've had an Apistogramma in my tank. I don't know why. It's nice to have some again.

Little update.

I've added a group of 6 juvenile Mesanauta festivum and a harem of Apistogramma trifasciata .
The Apistogramma are tiny and have not really coloured up yet but they are starting to settle in ok.

You can see just how tiny the trifasciata are next to this ram.

Festivums

I have also had some spawning going on,not by any of the cichlids mind.
My group of ancistrus have had at least 2 spawns since adding them.
I think a lot of these may survive left to their own devices . They seem to be well hidden among the leaf litter and seed pods.

You have my favorite tanks of any that I have seen on any forum--- Awe-inspiring.
The apistogramma are cute little guys...
The Festivums are so unusual, distinctive in body shape... I am curious about them, will need to do some reading up about their needs and temperament with other fish.
is this the same tank where you have the large shoal of tetras?
Thanks for sharing ! :)

Hi Steve,
You've been quiet, nice to see you back.

Yes I still have the Lents and a few otapa swordtails.

Yeah, health and some other things haven’t been good. Trying to stay positive. Health is better, but have been out of work since March. All time and energy has been spent on getting healthy and finding a job.

Thanks Dan.

Went missing on another forum and got this in the mail. Long story on the cell phone stickers. But this helped me get out back on forums, and that means here too.

Edit: actually long story on all the stickers.
Any way missed you guys.

Hi Lilyann ,
Thanks for the nice comments , I really like your tanks too .
The festivums can be treated the same way as angel fish.
They will eat small tetras but should be ok with the ones I have. It also helps having the tetras quite well grown and the festivums as small juveniles .
Growing up side by side they should not look upon them as food .
Yes it is the same tank with the tetra, so I really hope what I just wrote rings true .

Nice additions Stan. I've always thought festivums to be an interesting and unique looking fish. I like how they differ from most cichlids in that they utilize the upper half of the water column. Helps fill out a tank I think.

Quick thought followed up by a question..

Like yourself, I often utilize a good amount of organic matter to scape my tanks (wood, leaves, etc.). How have you seen this to affect your water params and quality? Outside of the obvious PH altering effects, do you think it ups the overall bacteria count within the tank (both good and bad?) I often see many "sterile" looking setups here and wonder which is a better environment for the fish, health wise.

Humic acids are known to be beneficial to fish with some antibacterial properties :)
