What do you mean by a service interval?...does that mean thats the next time you will change the media?...and do a water change?

Thanks!
Yes. Next time I plan on opening up and cleaning the filter is at least one year from now - or later if the flow rate is still strong. My filters are selected, filled and sized to aim for complete mineralization of organic waste. Eheims are famous for long cleaning intervals.

I do change water more often ;) Right now - only lightly stocked - 100 gal every 2 weeks.

This is the tank that filter maintains:

Wow...Im looking for an alternative to what Im currently using which is 3 emperor 400s on a 125 with about 9 CA/SA cichlids that are all about 7-9 inches and 12 small tetra dithers.

In your opinion, would this filter be sufficient for now and be of use as the only filter when I move it to a 240 in May of next year (with the same fish bio-load I currently have)? I have no live plants, only feed the fish pellet and frozen food, no live.

I have no experience or knowledge on manipulating the filter as you did, so Im asking about it as it comes, straight out of the box. Unless what you did was a simple fix not needing silicone, cutting etc.

Thanks for your opinion.

Yes, the 2262 should definitely be fine as standalone filter for you on the future 240gal. It'd be quite a lot of flow for the current 125 gal, though. Works straight out of the box. I only did the DIY outlet because it wouldn't have fit in my stand otherwise. Fill with media as recommended, and enjoy low-maintenance filtration  That's another advantage over the FX5, whose foam allegedly clogs up in no time.

Cool. Thanks for the reply. What about carbon? I saw you listed the following for the media:

2'' Sera Siporax/EhfiMech mix
2'' EhfiFix
top off with 6'' Ehfi substrat pro and substrat
finish with a layer of floss and the lattice screen

and noticed no carbon. Is something youve listed taking the place or is it your opinion that carbon is not needed? Like I said, I have no experience in dealing with the filtration other than HOB emperors, Aqua Clear 110's and various other HOB's. I was under the impression carbon is well needed & important.

Thanks!

Capefear, carbon is not needed in most circumstances. It is good to eliminate specific medications, chemicals, and colors, but if you are maintaining your tank properly (i.e. changing water regularly) you would never need carbon except in special circumstances.

monster.. thinking about replacing my 2080 with that bad boy..
LOL. That's exactly what I did :D
My 2080 is now powering my 75 gal again, which it is much more suited for.

Sounds like the only problem is to get to fit inside A standard size cabinet/stand.
Doable with either my (post#11) or deeda's (post#29) DIY. Very simple
