Tanning? You mean like using lights? I don't dare to switch on the lights right now. X-back and BB are on the other half of the aquarium - when the lights are on then off, they fight. If the light is left off, then seems to be no problem. I have ordered another 8' aquarium and cycling another 6' tank, so when there is only one fish for each space, then i will turn on the light.

I got those aros last december... the fish is less than year old i think - size is less than 1' (30cm) ...may be 25cm. BB is smaller still and X-back is even smaller

The red guy is really coming along nicely - though not yet fully red, it is getting redder everytime i see him: check out the tail and fins as well as lips. Recently found some meal worms in Thailand so i brought back some and tried them with aros - they went completely nuts for them :D gonna use these too now (i hope my maid is not too scared of meal worms)

The 6' tank is cycling now for X-back. Another 8' tank was been ordered for 3xsilvers and jar. 7' will then be inherited by BB. Red will be in the current 8' by himself with some bottom dwellers

All the pix taken with no lights so it is natural coloring of the fish

PS: pix 5 is BB. two bottom pix are taken with a different camera

My poor BB is not growing i think... even though he is eating and all that. X-back is growing but the color does not seem to be developing :irked: currently both are situated on the same side away from the red. They live peacefully as long as there are no changes to the lighting.

They seem to have taken to mealworms very well so they will be getting that. I have never seen these two so worked up for food. X-back does not eat frogs that require effort for swallowing. BB eats frogs and generallly live things are accepted quite readily. ... i don't know if it is my imagination but BB some times seem to be losing color and sometimes it is back to normal. ... at least he does not seemed to be too shredded ... X-back got nipped tail but nothing more serious so far. X-back will be moving in couple of weeks to 6' set-up while BB will have to wait (by himself) to inherit the 7' silver set-up when the new 8' is ready for them

PS: last pix is the x-back ... somewhat colorless ... is it normal? or is he still young? or is he too stress with the BB ...<sigh>

Check out the shine on the beasties ^^ i got them on mealworm (and X-back is loving it). Red guy just eats everything very actively. BB also goes nuts for mealworms. So, i got some worms and camera then started shooting the pix from the top.

BTW, i seem to think i am seeing some deeper colors on red's back around some of the scales - just my imagination or what?

X-back is now finally turning golden - can not capture with my camera but there are gold flakes on its head. The scales are not coloring up though. they are shiny with blue-ish hues (see some of the overhead shots). Still a little shredded from being housed with BB

BB is the same - not better not worse.

PS: how does one clean-up after mealworms? ... the aquarium the worms are in is starting to get smelly ...
